A lesson on clean hair that lasts for days
The biggest cause of greasy hair is build up. Build up can occur for many reasons – sweat, oils from your hands, genetics. One that can be easily resolved is build up from products, bad products. The hair care that you can find in Wal-Mart, that smells like delicious papaya and mango, is horrible for your hair. To fulfill their promise of silky hair for cheap, they use chemicals that coat your hair instead of actually healing/softening it. Those coats build up with every wash and actually make your hair look greasy or dirty when it is actually clean. This makes you use their products faster without ever achieving beautiful hair.
One thing you can do is INVEST in a good shampoo and conditioner. I have to say it ladies, if you want the luscious hair without an everyday wash, you will have to invest it. (I’m not saying you have to buy the salon shampoos (that are like $60 a bottle), you can find some great brands that cost around $15 a bottle).
Life Hack: I actually buy my shampoo at Winners (TJ MAXX Canadian Equivalent). I can find the $60 bottles (like bumble & bumble, Moroccan oil, etc.) for under $20!
Don’t load up on the after wash products. While it is important to protect from styling tools, the mousses, oils and sprays can leave your hair looking dirty even when you’re fresh and so clean clean (does anyone else still love that song?). When using the after shampoo products make sure you are applying them to the ends of the hair only (mid-shaft to ends). Hair that has just sprouted (the roots) are brand spankin’ new – they don’t need any damage control because they haven’t had the opportunity to be damaged yet.
Use a hair mask. No really, do it. Hair masks are amazing for repair your hair – just like clay masks repair your skin.
I’ve linked one HERE.
This one is a secret hair stylists recipe – and it’s crazy simple (only 2 ingredients)!
Use dry shampoo if all else fails. Dry shampoo is literally one of my favorite inventions. I can usually go for about 2-3 days (depending on various factors) between washes. If I use a dry shampoo, I can push it to about 4 days! (yes. I still shower everyday – just with a shower cap). Which is amazing. The natural oils that your scalp produces are nourishing and moisturizing for your scalp.
As with any other routine, it takes a while for the body to adjust. After a few weeks of performing these new routines, I guarantee that you will start to see a difference.
IF ALL ELSE FAILS -> DRY SHAMPOO. NUFF SAID.
