Ikea As – Is Section Shopping Hacks

Ikea is quite literally my favorite place on Earth. From their amazing food to cute home essentials – I can go there twice every week and still have fun (and I do!). The AS – IS section is one of my favorite places to shop because you can find brand new items for up to 50% off! I’m a total bargain hunter and I love the chase.

I actually bought probably 40% of our house from Ikea and their As – Is section. I found Logan’s crib in an unopened (still glued shut) box for 50% off! That was probably one of the best finds I’ve had.

Below are the best As – Is Section shopping hacks:

Play the Name Game:

Find the names of the products (and their various codes) that you like. A few years ago when I was first moving out I fell in love with the simplicity of the MALM bedroom set. There are a few different pieces that you can get (bed frame, night table, dresser, etc.) each piece has a specific numeric code – for the color and size. I recommend finding the exact name and code of each item that you want to get. When you are browsing the AS – IS Section, you can navigate the unopened boxes and find what you are looking for.

Broken and Scratched?:

If an item is purchased, and then returned to the store – they are not able to put it back on the shelves. Once a box has been returned ‘opened’ it is considered damaged – EVEN IF the buyer didn’t take out a single item.

Go Often, Go Early:

The section is stocked daily. However, most of their stocking is done during the night when the store is closed. All of the returns from the previous day are checked (they check every box to make sure ALL parts and pieces are included) and added to the stock room. Going often gives you a bigger opportunity to find your special piece!

Showrooms are Ever Changing:

Everyone’s favorite section at Ikea is the Showroom. Their designers are amazing and give us all inspiration for our own homes. They renovate their showrooms about every 3 (ish) months. That means all of the furniture, rugs, pictures, glasses, EVERYTHING! At first, you will see the whole room on clearance before it is sent to AS IS. We bought an entire kitchen for 40% off for my parents last year! (the bonus: it was already assembled, we saved design costs, there were no imperfections!)

Returns are Easy:

If you find something wrong with your as -is find, or that it’s damaged in some way (that you didn’t see in the store), feel free to bring it back! Just like new merchandise, you are able to bring back the item with a receipt for a full refund.

Ask for Help:

There are co-workers that work solely in the As -Is section. If you ask for help finding a particular item, they will be able to tell you if it is stocked in the AS IS section or not – saving you valuable time.

I hope these hacks help you score some huge discounts on your next MALM or FURILIG!
