How Moms Can Soothe Occasional Coughs in Toddlers and Children

One of the hardest parts of motherhood is when our kids feel under the weather. There’s nothing worse than seeing your little bundles of energy start to slow down. Starting school and being exposed to more germs makes our kids more susceptible to occasional coughs or dry throats. There are a few things we can do as parents to help prepare their little bodies.

Supporting Immune Systems

One of the most important hacks for soothing toddlers and children is to be proactive as soon as any symptoms start to develop. Helping build a strong immune system for little bodies can help them fight the occasional coughs before they set in. To have a strong immune system, a body needs:

A Proper Diet—A healthy diet filled with lots of fruits and vegetables helps children build a strong immune system.

Proper Hygiene—Maintaining proper hygiene, including washing hands frequently throughout the day to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

Proper Exercise—Everyone needs to keep their body moving to stay active and strong. Encourage tech-free time and more outdoor and imaginative playtime.

Proper Sleep—Every mom dreams about getting the full seven hours of sleep that doctors recommend, but did you know children need more than seven hours? The average child needs 9+ hours of sleep every night. Having a regular bedtime and routine makes it easier for kids to get the full amount of sleep that they need.

Proper Immune Support—Little bodies can benefit from immune system support. Mommy’s Bliss makes Elderberry Syrup for ages 1-12 that is USDA Organic and contains Elderberry, Vitamin C and echinacea to boost immunity. Additionally, for ages 2+, Mommy’s Bliss recently launched Elderberry Gummies that contains antioxidant-rich elderberry, zinc & vitamin C to help support the immune systems of growing bodies.

From my experience, it can be tricky to manage a healthy routine. We have a lot of weekly events, sports, classes, and playgroups that sometimes prevent our kids from having well-rounded immune support. Especially since our kids have gone to daycare and school, we’re faced with more germs that can lead to the occasional cough and dry throat. By starting every morning with a nutritious breakfast and our vitamin regime (including Mommy’s Bliss Elderberry Gummies) we start the day off right—even if we forget to eat healthier, get outside, or get enough sleep.

Historically Beneficial

A great way to support the immune system is with elderberry. Growing up in a European family, my parents were always giving us elderberry syrup—the benefits have been known for years. Just a few of the many reason why we love Mommy’s Bliss’ elderberry products.

Mommy’s Bliss also makes four varieties of Organic Cough Syrups to support babies and kids. With ingredients like agave, honey, ginger, slippery elm bark, wild cherry bark, and more. These cough syrups are great for soothing the occasional cough and dry throat.

Soothing

Honey has been one of the most popular ingredients for soothing a dry throat. Have you ever had warm tea sweetened with a spoonful of honey? It can almost instantly warm up my throat on a dry day. Agave is similar to honey, and can be used for babies, for anyone who is vegetarian or vegan, and as a substitute in recipes. Both honey and agave have soothing properties that can support occasional coughs and are used in Mommy’s Bliss Organic Cough Syrups.

How I Support My Family

I love that Mommy’s Bliss’ products are made with babies and kids in mind. They are made without:

·     The top 8 allergens (peanuts, wheat, eggs, milk, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, and soy)
·      Gelatin
·      Artificial colors and flavors
·      Sucrose
·      Binders or fillers
·      Dairy
·      Gluten
·      Dill
·      Alcohol

As our kids have allergies and diet intolerances, their products are safe to use throughout the house.
