Top Fashion Trends for Fall and Winter 2018 – Straight from Fashion Week

Fall is almost here! I always get so excited for Fall because it is my second most favorite style season (Spring is numero uno because of florals and pinks of course). I’m so excited for this Fall because some of my favorite style trends from my childhood are coming back. The styles my mom used to rock, and all the moms used to rock. Luckily the amazing styles that have all been donated to thrift stores and are now a literal steal! Yes, baby!

Getting ready to outline this post, I was looking back at all the past shows from Fashion Week in the Spring and I was falling in love. That’s one of my favorite things about style, is when trends come back from the grave. Smart shoppers heads up! Before you run to your nearest Nordstrom or Neiman, head to the thrift store first. I might have raided every thrift store in my area and found a piece from every single trend for this Fall.

So, let’s dive into all The Top Fashion Trends for Fall and Winter 2018

Black Leather

Black Leather trench coats are back! My mom used to rock this coat and it was one of her most prized possessions. This style season, the shiner the better. Finding this look doesn’t have to break the bank either, there are tones of vegan leather options available.

Black leather is coming from the #timesout movement – so, it can be modern, powerful and bold. Give us some Matrix vibes with leather dresses and vests too. The more outrageous shoulders the better. They bring a strong sense of control and domination.

Blue & Magenta

If you weren’t up for rocking the all red look last fall, the all blue look is definitely for you. All muted tones of blue are perfect – like baby blue, powder blue, and all denim. This trend is easy to rock with a blue blouse, wide leg jeans and a sweet pair of powder blue block heels.

The second color of the season is Magenta, and I’m so happy I could cry. I love love love pink as I’m sure you could tell from my previous stylings, so I’m loving all looks that are serving up all magenta. It’s paired often with red and the color blocking of the 2 colors is so bright and energetic.

Furs + Shearling

Faux furs and shearling jackets are going to be bringing all the heat in the upcoming cold months.

Foil + Liquid

Iridecent hologram and clear fabrics are still on point. All things futuristic are living in fall. I’m loving the silver metallic look. It’s a really way to bring a big bold statement to a easy outfit. I found this really cute silver foil bomber jacket that is going to pair perfectly jeans and a white tee.

The clear plastic trend is also here to stay. But buyer beware, all contents are visible. So make sure your outfit is perfectly put together because everyone and their grandma can see through that clear coat.

Tall and White

I love white and everything it does for my complexion. There is a sense of freshness and cleanliness that comes with an all-white look. We’re also getting over that ‘don’t wear white after Labor Day’ fashion rule. It’s minimalistic and keeps your look cool and casual.

80s Style

Let’s just call it bright and neon. Bring out all the greens, pinks, oranges and yellows – Literally just like a pack of highlighters. You can try this trend with little pops of neon – like a neon collar, scarf, or bag. You can get the perfect inspiration for this trend from Madonna.

Western

Yee haw cowboys! Fringe is all the range, and the longer the better.

Another chic way to add the western trend to your wardrobe is through accessories. There’s that great little cowboy-ish belt buckle that we can find on more than just belts, it can be found on coats, shoes, boots, and hats.

Crochet is also part of this trend and that’s something that I love. Knits and comfortable textures will bring a folklore spirit to your look. Tones in this trend should reflect the Americana spirit – lots of rich browns, maroons, creams and mustard colors.

Animal Prints

The most popular prints are going to be tiger and zebra. But of course, leopard print is here too.

Capes

I have always wanted to own a cape. I love the look of a jacket draped over the shoulders or even a shall. A cape is just so perfect. They are so classy and elegant. If you want to dress up without going over the top, you can just throw on your cape and be out the door.

Plaid

I think that plaid is just a necessity of Fall. It’s a pattern that will just always be in trend. The only thing that changes is the color and size of the print. The most popular type of plaid that is going to be in season is called glen plaid – it’s the small pattern that is usually black and white.

Florals

These aren’t your everyday florals from spring and summer. They are dark, flowy, but moody. One of the most popular floral trends we will see if the 3D effect – Lots of florals that look hand painted or applique.

The floral trend is keeping up with the 70s Western vibe as well. A great way to pair a midi floral dress is with a great pair of white heels or booties.

Oversized

Think baby girl wearing mommy’s heels. Except, this trend isn’t for shoes. Splashed over each runway were oversized coats, bags, and accessories. It’s great to layer all your colorful oversized pieces to create a standout look. Should I also mention that this trend is EXTREMELY comfortable. Like wearing a warm sleeping bag to the office – which is just about everyone’s dream. If you’re worried about being lost under all oversized coats, a quick trick is to wear fitted layers underneath. Wearing an open oversized coat with a fitted put together look underneath will look fashion forward, not lazy.

My favorite trends for Fall and Winter 2018

Personally, I’m living for the all blue trend and the all-white trend. I love styles that are completely one color. They are so easy to style and give such a polished look. I’m also excited for the foil and holographic trend. It’s a trend that I really wanted to get into when I was growing up in the 2000s, but it just seemed too futuristic. Well, guess what, now we are living in the future, so the time is now. I’m really craving a pair of clear heels for my closet and I can’t wait to find the perfect pair.

Let me know in the comments which trend you’ll be wearing most of this Fall/Winter.
