I posted a few weeks ago that I was on the hunt for the best black leggings for under $20. Well, the results are in. Black leggings are a staple in any moms closet – and actually they’ve been my go to pant for about 6 years now. I live for comfort; I hate feeling restricted and tight – which is how jeans make me feel.

There are 3 different types of Black Leggings – to each their own preference on their favorite type. The first being the classic cotton – which are sewed with visible seams and an elastic waist band. The second is the lycra-spandex – they are somewhat shiny and can have one or no seams. The third are for active wear – they are often made from a spandex breathable fabric.

Everyone has their personal favorite type of black legging (mine being the cotton type). I have sampled a few of each type of legging and HERE ARE THE RESULTS:

Classic Cotton Black Legging:

The best cotton black legging can be found at H&M. Hands down, these are my favorite. I have had a pair that has lasted me 2 years, being worn and washed at LEAST once a week – they are still black, stretchy and dark black. They have not faded. They are not transparent either – feel free to wear any print undies!

They are a score at ONLY $9.99!

Lycra-Spandex Black Legging:

The best lycra-spandex legging can be found at Ardene. They run super cheap.

Personally, I hate this type of legging. I find that they always ripe and run up the back. They only stretch a certain amount before they get VERY shiny. They also always make my legs so itchy! Am I the only one?

They can be found at 2 pairs for $15!

Active Wear Black Legging:

The best pair can be found at Old Navy. Their line of Go Dry workout wear are made from a soft, stretchy and versatile material. They do not fade in color. They do not lose their stretch or shape. I have had a pair that I’ve been wearing since last summer (while pregnant!) that still look brand new.

There is one con to the Old Navy brand. It is hard to find a pain pair. The few pairs that I have some design to them – either writing or mesh cut outs.

They can be found on sale for $19.99 (off sale around $25-$30).
