What You’ll Need (Cooking Tools)

The most important tools come from Amazon! I was able to order everything actually and get it the next day thanks to Prime – what a miracle, eh? When learning how to make Hot Chocolate Bombs, I saw most people using a paint brush for the chocolate – but you can definitely just use a spoon or silicone spatula. In my experience, it was much easier to spread with a paint brush. So, if you will be making a ton of these I would suggest investing in one.

    • Sphere Silicone Molds
    • Silicone Spatulas
    • Microwave safe bowls
    • Food Safe Paint Brush
    • Baking Sheet

Ingredients for Making Peppermint Hot Chocolate Bombs

I found most of the ingredients in my bulk food store, but I know they can also be found on Amazon. The peppermint hot chocolate mix I use is actually from Amazon and it is really yummy! Luckily you can buy the exact Starbucks brand peppermint hot chocolate from Amazon or other grocery stores.  There are other option out there to make peppermint hot chocolate with non-Starbucks brand mix; however, I found it tastes just like in cafe when I use their brand.

    • Milk Chocolate
    • Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate Powder
    • Salt
    • Mini Marshmallows
    • Peppermint Candy Canes
    • Milk
These are the Ingredients I Bought from Amazon

How to Make Peppermint Hot Chocolate Bombs

Step 1: Melt the chocolate

In the microwave is the fastest way. Put the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl or cup. At 30 second intervals melt a small bowl of the white chocolate until smooth. To make 4 Peppermint Hot Chocolate Bombs, I used 1 cup of milk chocolate chips.

Step 2: Paint the Silicone Molds

Using your brush or spatula paint a thin layer inside the silicone mold. After all are painted, place in the freezer for 15 minutes. Then, repeat the painting again with a slightly thicker layer. This will make sure that they don’t break along the way. Plus, a little extra chocolate makes them so much sweeter! Freeze again for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Remove from the Molds

Start by placing a baking sheet over your stove and warming the burners on low – just so it’s slightly warmed. Remove the molds from the freezer. Carefully remove each half sphere and place aside.

Step 4: Fill the Chocolate Bombs

Fill half of the set of chocolate spheres with the peppermint hot chocolate mixture. Here is the breakdown of what I used per chocolate sphere:

    • 1 serving of peppermint hot chocolate powder (based on which you use)
    • However many mini marshmallows you can stuff inside!

Step 5: Connect Together

Now you will take the empty half, and melt it on the baking sheet we warmed up earlier. Once it’s slightly melted, connect the empty top to the filled bottom. After connected, place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

Step 6: Decorate

I like to clean mine up a little with my paint brush. Around the center where they were connected, I use more melted chocolate to fill in the holes – just so nothing escapes and they look a little prettier!

You are then able to decorate in any way you’d like! I crushed the candy canes by putting them in a ziplock bag with a rolling pin. Then I brushed a little extra melted chocolate on top and sprinkled the crushed candy canes ontop.

How to Serve Peppermint Hot Chocolate Bombs

Over the stove in a pot, warm up the milk. In a wide mug, place the Hot Chocolate Bomb in the center. I like to add a little candy cane hanging over the mug because it looks so cute! Then, with your heated milk, pour over the chocolate bomb and watch the magic! This part is really cool to watch and is what all the fuss is about! So much better than regular hot chocolate – dontcha think?
