How to Dye Light Blonde Hair at Home with No Damage

Hello fellow/aspiring blondies! This tutorial is a how to DIY Light Blonde Hair with no damage. Bleaching your own hair can be a scary process, trust me. But, if you follow the instructions and read your labels, you can get hair like mine without any damage!

There are 2 products that will keep you from damaging your hair in this tutorial. The first is the 20 Volume Crème Developer. Developer comes in 10, 20, 30, 40 Volumes. The 20 Volume is on the weak side, so it shouldn’t burn out your hair. It’s safe to use if you are careful and follow the instructions. The second comes in 2 parts: Absolute Perfection Booster Step 1, + Absolute Perfection Color Sealer Step 2. This 2-step process is mixed in with the bleach and the toner. It helps coat the hair to protect it, and then seal the hair shaft in the toner.

The products were easy to find. I just walked into Sally’s and gave them my list. Some of the items I got from the dollar store – like the bowls, clips and towels.

How to DIY Light Blonde Hair

Step 1: Section hair into 4 sections

Start by creating a middle part. Run the end of the hair dye brush from the middle of your nose to the back of your head. Brush each side off into a clip. Take the hair dye brush again. Place it at the back of your earlobe and make a straight line to the top of your head. Brush the hair into 2 sections and secure with a clip. Repeat on the second side.

Step 2: Mix the bleach

Empty the packet of bleach into the mixing bowl. Pour in half of the bottle of developer and half of the Ion Protector Step 1. Mix them together. It should create the consistency of pudding. The bleach is strongest when it’s first mixed and gradually declines in strength.

Step 3: Apply to the hair

Start by going down the center part, then down each of the side sections. Once you have bordered the four sections on your head, start to make paper thin sections. Use the end of your dye brush to make the tiny sections. Once you’ve completed the front 2 sections, move to the back.

Once your roots/hair are covered in the bleach, take the plastic bag and wrap it around your head. The bag will help trap the heat and speed up the process. Let the bleach process for 20 minutes.

Step 4: Wash it off

Rinse the bleach off with warm water. Now, shampoo and condition your hair as you normally would. Dry your hair or let tit air dry.

Step 5: Repeat it

Repeat all the bleaching steps 2-4. Make, apply, process (for only 15 minutes this time – check the color every few minutes by removing the bleach with your nails. The color should be a light yellow), rinse and wash. Don’t dry your hair after this round – the next step requires wet hair.

Step 6: Mix Toner

Mix half the bottle of the toner with the rest of the developer. Add in the rest of the Absolute Perfection Booster Step 1, and all the Absolute Perfection Color Sealer Step 2. The mixture should have that pudding consistency.

Step 7: Apply Toner

Apply the toner to the hair that was just bleached (root or all hair). After the freshly bleached hair has been covered, apply it to the rest of the hair. Massage the toner to ensure that every strand is covered. Allow to process for 3-5 minutes.

Step 8:

Rinse and style!
